How it Works

Snailbucket chess tournaments are played on the Free Internet Chess Server FICS. In order to participate, you need to create an FICS account first which is free.

Frequently visited pages

Our tournaments revolve around the following key pages:

The Overview page, e.g. Monthly 2: links to the pairings, standings, etc.

The Pairings page, e.g. Monthly 2 Pairings: shows who is your opponent in a round.

The Game forum: a chat window where you and your opponent negotiate a day and time to start your game. Game forum messages are instantly forwarded to your email address. Once you and your opponent have agreed on a convenient time, one of you can set the clock in the game forum. Show up on FICS at the time that was agreed, and play your game.

Useful knowledge

The Tourney guide, e.g. the SB Monthly 2 Tourney guide: please study the rules before you sign up to a tourney.

The Help page: articles on a variety of topics, including the two distinct Snailbucket features Generally Bad Times and Time Control Preferences.

The How to join page: how to create your account.

Good chess to you!
